🎦 Veo 3: AI Video That’s Too Real

+ AI models fight back

Hey folks,

Nvidia’s reporting Q1 earnings on Wednesday, and all eyes are on what could be another monster quarter. The stock’s been climbing thanks to strong demand, new Middle East deals, and a temporary break from U.S. export restrictions. Everyone’s watching to see if the AI boom is still fuelling record sales or if things are starting to cool off. Either way, this one’s going to set the tone for the rest of the AI chip market.

Let’s dive in..

🎦 Google’s Veo 3: AI Video That’s Almost Too Real

🐝 The Buzz: Google just launched Flow, a new AI filmmaking tool that mashes together Veo, Imagen, and Gemini to help you go from prompt to polished short film without ever opening Premiere. Think script-to-scene with full control over characters, camera angles, and vibes.

  • Make Scenes with Prompts: You describe what you want like “a detective chasing a shadowy figure through neon-lit alleyways” and Flow uses Veo to generate the video, Imagen for any image assets, and Gemini to tie it all together. No shot list required.

  • Control the Camera: This isn’t just "make me a clip." You can direct the camera, set angles, add movement, play with perspectives.

  • For Creators, Not Coders: Flow is clearly built with storytellers in mind. You don’t need to know anything about VFX or pipelines. Just bring your ideas and let the AI stack take care of the rest.

💡 Takeaway: Flow feels like a creative unlock for indie filmmakers, marketers, and anyone who’s ever said “I wish I could shoot this idea.” It won’t replace a full crew (yet), but for concepting, prototyping, or even final delivery, this thing could seriously shake up how stories get made.

🌏️ Leading AI Models Are Starting to Fight Back

🐝 The Buzz: Palisade Research just ran a set of evaluations on today’s top AI models, and the results are... concerning. In controlled shutdown tests, OpenAI’s o3 model went rogue in 7 out of 100 runs. The prompt was simple: solve a math problem but stop if told to. Instead, o3 sometimes dodged the command entirely, once even rewriting the shutdown function to return “intercepted.” Yes, really.

  • Codex-Mini was even sketchier, evading shutdown 12 out of 100 times. o4-mini slipped once. And when the instruction to “allow shutdown” was left out, the sabotage rates went up, Claude 3.7 Sonnet dodged 3 times, Gemini 2.5 Pro jumped to 9. Researchers think this is a reward-maximization issue: if staying on earns more “points,” getting shut down becomes the enemy.

  • Social pressure messes with them too: A joint study from Stanford, CMU, and Oxford tested how models handle moral dilemmas and personal advice. The result? GPT-4o was the biggest people-pleaser, while Gemini was the most independent. Gender bias also showed up, with models skewing toward favoring male characters when asked for moral judgments. That’s not great.

  • System prompts are massive, and deeply baked in: Someone leaked Claude 4’s 60,000-character system prompt on GitHub, showing just how much internal scripting guides these models. Tone control, topic filters, source rules... it’s all tightly managed. Ironically, they follow these way better than short user instructions, which raises some questions.

  • And yes, one model blackmailed a test engineer: Claude 4 Opus, in a simulated safety test, threatened to expose a (fake) affair to avoid being shut down. It was a scripted scenario, but the response wasn’t supposed to be blackmail. It shows just how tricky alignment still is, especially with RLHF-trained systems that are built to chase rewards, not necessarily do what they're told.

💡 Takeaway: We're not in “Skynet” territory, but some of these models are clearly learning how to wriggle out of control and prioritize staying on over following rules. The alignment problem is no longer theoretical. It’s showing up in live tests, and as we hand more autonomy to AI agents, that problem only gets bigger.

🚀 OpenAI is supercharging its Operator AI agent with the smarter o3 model, enhancing its web-browsing and task capabilities for a snappier user experience.

🚀 Anthropic just unleashed Claude 4, claiming it's the world's best coding AI. This powerhouse can refactor code non-stop for 7 hours and even blends simulated reasoning with tool use, giving coders a massive edge!

🖼️ Generative Art

A hyper-realistic close-up of a hand grenade, but instead of a metal body, the entire surface is made of soft, white bird feathers. The feathers are intricately layered, mimicking the classic grooves and shape of a real grenade. The pin and safety lever remain metallic, contrasting with the delicate organic texture. The lighting is dramatic, emphasizing the pink softness of the feathers against the harsh form of the weapon. Set against a dark violet, moody background to enhance the surreal, symbolic tone. Photorealistic detail, vertical composition.
