🌙 Moonshot AI is free

+ It's beating GPT-4

Hey folks,

Grok just rolled out customizable AI companions in the iOS app including a goth anime girl named Ani and a cartoon fox called Bad Rudy. Subscribers to SuperGrok ($300/month) can chat with these animated characters via voice or text, complete with facial expressions and NSFW modes. Predictably, that part has sparked controversy. It’s a wild ride into AI-personality territory, part fun, part unsettling, and definitely pushing the boundaries of what AI “companionship” looks like. Keep an eye on this and maybe the moderation questions that come with it.

Let’s dive in..

🧠 Your Browser’s Got a Brain Now

🐝 The Buzz: Chrome and Safari are still eating up most of the web traffic, but a new batch of AI-powered browsers is making them look kind of basic. AI browsers are talking assistants that read, summarize, answer questions, and even click for you. If the browser wars were ever boring, 2025 is flipping the script.

  • Perplexity Comet is like a research bot in disguise: Comet blends Perplexity’s ask-me-anything smarts with a custom browser that reads, summarizes, and answers without needing to Google-hop. You don’t search, you ask. And it’s fast.

  • Arc’s Browse for Me is pure delegation: Arc Search on mobile lets you type a question and lets the browser do the legwork like opening tabs, skimming pages, and returning a tidy little report. You don’t browse... it does.

  • Browser Company’s Dia just dropped in private beta: Built as a new AI-native desktop browser, Dia is designed around intent. You tell it what you’re trying to do, and it plans the steps with page-loads and real actions. Think of it as a browser with an actual to-do list.

  • Opera’s doing double duty: You've got Aria, the AI assistant baked into classic Opera, and now Opera Neon, a brand new browser built for native AI experiences. It’s got smart tab organization, floating elements, and is trying to rethink what a “window” even is.

  • Brave Leo keeps things private and local: Brave’s Leo runs right on your device, skips the data harvesting, and still chats, summarizes, and helps out while you browse. Bonus points for speed and not selling your soul.

  • SigmaOS Airis is a little wild: Airis lets you chat with any webpage, ask for rewrites, or get summaries, all with a little chaos energy.

  • And yes, OpenAI might be cooking something up: There’s increasing noise about OpenAI building its own browser. Details are thin, but with ChatGPT already handling web tasks through Browse with Bing, a full browser would be the next logical step.

💡 Takeaway: The next wave of browsers is about intent. These tools don’t just help you browse the web... they do the browsing for you. If Chrome and Safari don’t wake up soon, they might end up as the “Internet Explorer” of this decade.

🚀 Kimi K2 Just Dunked on GPT-4... and It's Free

🐝 The Buzz: Moonshot AI’s new model Kimi K2 just walked onto the LLM court and casually outscored GPT-4 in some major benchmarks... and oh yeah, it costs exactly $0 to try. China’s homegrown contender is suddenly looking like the real deal, especially if you like your chatbots fast, smart, and free.

  • It’s outperforming the top players: Kimi K2 topped GPT-4 on four out of five popular academic benchmarks for logic, math, and code.

  • Context window is huge: We're talking 2 million tokens. That’s “feed it a novel and ask questions about Chapter 17 without breaking a sweat” levels of memory. Perfect for multi-doc research.

  • Fast, free, and public: You can test it live right now at kimi.moonshot.cn. No invite codes. No waitlists. No bait-and-switch pricing. It’s just... free.

  • China’s not playing around: Moonshot’s a startup backed by Alibaba and founded by ex-Meta and Google folks. K2 is their second-gen model, and it’s already pushing into open-source territory with strong vibes of “watch this space.”

💡 Takeaway: Kimi K2 might be the first non-Western model to truly rattle the leaderboard and it’s doing it with speed, memory, and actual public access. If Moonshot keeps up this pace, OpenAI and Anthropic might want to look over their shoulders.
