When YC President Garry Tan asked him about what excites him most in the coming year, Altman highlighted AGI as a pivotal milestone. Altman also reflected on OpenAI's journey and offered advice for founders navigating the evolving AI landscape.

AGI timelines

• Optimists such as Sam Altman and Dario Amodei foresee AGI emerging as early as 2025-2026, envisioning systems capable of surpassing experts in a range of fields. Geoffrey Hinton, however, offers a broader estimate, suggesting AGI could arrive within 5 to 20 years.

• Moderate perspectives, including that of DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis, anticipate AGI within the next decade, focusing on the gradual advancement of AI systems toward human-level reasoning.

• In contrast, more conservative figures like Andrew Ng believe AGI may be much further off, highlighting the need for significant breakthroughs. Although hopeful for AGI within our lifetime, Ng remains skeptical about predictions of its near-term arrival.
