Hey folks,

Anthropic built Cowork, their Claude Code for non-coding work App in 10 days with a 4-person team using Claude Code itself. The meta moment: AI coding tools building AI productivity tools for non-coders. It handles file management tasks like organizing downloads and turning receipt screenshots into expense spreadsheets. Anthropic's head of Claude Code confirmed on X that ALL of Cowork was built with Claude Code, showcasing what's possible when AI tools create AI tools. The feedback loop between AI capability and AI-built applications just accelerated.

Let’s dive in..

πŸ“± Google Veo 3.1 Makes Vertical Video for Social

Google just updated Veo 3.1 with native 9:16 vertical video generation. For the first time, "Ingredients to Video" supports creating full-screen vertical content without quality loss or awkward cropping.

What's new:

  • Native vertical format: Generate YouTube Shorts, TikTok, and Instagram Reels in their native aspect ratio

  • "Ingredients to Video" workflow: Supply multiple reference images (or first/last frames) and Veo 3.1 generates coherent transitions and in-between motion that preserve character appearance and scene layout

  • 4K upscaling: 1080p and 4K resolution options available via Flow, Gemini API, and Vertex AI

  • Improved expressiveness: Better character expressions and movements from reference images, even with shorter prompts

  • Enhanced consistency: More reliable character, object, and background continuity across frames

Here's the gap: Most AI video generators have been optimized for landscape. Creating vertical content meant generating horizontal, then cropping and losing resolution and framing. Veo 3.1 treats vertical as first-class, and the "ingredients" approach lets you control key moments while the AI handles the transitions.

For your team: If you're producing social video content at scale, native vertical AI generation changes the workflow. No more post-processing crops or resolution compromises.

🀝 Apple Chose Google Over OpenAI

Apple just made its biggest AI bet yet, and it's not with OpenAI.

Apple and Google announced a deal where the next generation of Apple’s Siri will be based on Google's Gemini models. These models will power future Apple Intelligence features, including a more personalized Siri launching with iOS 26.4 in March or April.

The deal structure reveals Apple's strategy:

  • Gemini powers the foundation: Apple's own AI models will be built on top of Google's Gemini architecture and cloud infrastructure

  • Siri gets "world knowledge": Enhanced conversational abilities and cross-app intelligence for billions of iPhones

  • Privacy maintained: Apple Intelligence continues running on-device and via Private Cloud Compute with Apple's privacy standards

But here's the critical detail: Apple said they're not making any changes to the ChatGPT agreement. The Google deal isn't exclusive. Apple is deliberately hedging across multiple AI providers with Google for foundation models, OpenAI for ChatGPT integration, and their own on-device processing.

For your team: Multi-provider AI strategies aren't just for Apple. When foundation models evolve this fast, architectural decisions that assume one provider will dominate to create vendor lock-in risk. Apple's approach is to layer your product on multiple providers while maintaining control of the user experience.
